Will Porter is a professional alto and soprano saxophonist, performer, producer, composer and writer with more than 28 years on the horn. He moves fluidly between jazz, hip-hop, R&B, African and Latin music, and has produced, written, composed and recorded a large catalog of songs — much of it still unreleased.
From a first alto sax to a full catalog
Picking up the horn
Will started on the alto saxophone as a kid and never really put it down — the beginning of what is now more than 28 years on the instrument, later adding soprano sax for its brighter, more piercing lead voice.
Learning on the bandstand
The early years were spent in ensembles, rehearsal rooms and local rooms — playing sets, sitting in, and learning to read a room and a rhythm section in real time. Live playing, not theory, is where the sound was built.
Becoming a working musician
As a professional saxophonist he moved into the working circuit: weddings, private and corporate events, venues, festivals and session dates, backing other artists as often as fronting his own material.
Writing and producing
Alongside performing, Will became a producer, composer and writer — recording his own catalog and building a deep archive of songs, many still unreleased.
Releasing the catalog
Releases now run from short singles to the 23-track album "Room 98," with the "Yah It Tis" EP and singles "AIO" and "DM Lifestyle" available on every major streaming platform.
